Do you experience tooth sensitivity? This may occur as a result of age, natural wear and tear, gum disease, gum recession, or tooth decay. There are many over-the-counter toothpastes designed for sensitivity teeth, but sometimes that just is not enough protection against the discomfort you experience daily when eating or drinking your favorite foods and beverages. Your Choto family dentist offers MI Paste, a topical crème that cleanses and protects your teeth against sensitivity.

What is MI Paste?

MI Paste is a safe, non-toxic, topical crème that can provide an additional layer of protection against tooth sensitivity, a common complaint among adult patients. MI Paste is water-based, sugar-free, and is now available in any one of five different flavors.

How is MI Paste used?

To use MI Paste, place a small amount on a cotton swap or a gloved finger and apply it to your teeth. Leave MI Paste undisturbed on your teeth for at least three minutes, and then spread it around on your teeth using your tongue. After you spit it out, skip the rinse and avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing your mouth for at least 30 minutes. Use up to twice per day.

How does MI Paste work?

When used, MI Paste fortifies the ions that already are present naturally inside your mouth, raising the overall levels of minerals that exist on your teeth. This process may decrease your risk of tooth decay.

Casein phosphopeptide is the active molecule in MI Paste and is present in Recaldent, a milk-derived protein. Also known as CPP, casein phosphopeptide is a compound that occurs naturally, releasing additional calcium and phosphate ions into the mouth that bind on to the surfaces of your teeth. When released, these ions add additional protection against tooth sensitivity, which can occur due to temperature changes in the mouth, after undergoing a teeth whitening procedure, or if you have weak or worn dental enamel.

MI Paste is the only product for professional use currently available that contains Recaldent. It is now available at your family dentist in Choto.

Unlike many medications that are used to treat oral health problems, MI Paste will not cause or worsen dry mouth.

Who should use MI Paste?

MI Paste is safe to use even for infants. It is well-tolerated by children. MI Paste actually is recommended for children under the age of 2 years old, for raising the levels of minerals in their mouths as their teeth develop, which helps lower the risk of tooth decay. It is also safe to use for mothers who are pregnant or breastfeeding, two groups of people who have an enhanced risk of oral health problems such as gum disease.

Do not use MI Paste if you have an allergy to either milk protein or benzoate preservatives.
